One of the most exciting events of the year is fast approaching for Canadians in London. Canada Day!
Here is the press release I just received:
3 April 2012 - Londoners and Canadians alike will be treated to a free festival and live concert as Canada on Stage rocks Trafalgar Square at Canada Day in London 2012.
The musical home of Bryan Adams, Drake, Justin Bieber and Arcade Fire is to be celebrated this summer with some of Canada’s most popular artists taking centre stage on Sunday 1st July in Trafalgar Square.
Canadian music legendsOur Lady Peace will be headlining this year’s live concert starting at 6pm. Now a decade into their recorded career, Our Lady Peace just released their new album Healthy in Paranoid Times.
Visitors will enjoy the sounds of international music stars including Shad, Kid Koala, Rich Aucoin, Sarah MacDougall, Ladies of the Canyon, Cara Luft, Rose Cousins and Amelia Curran. This stellar mix of Canadian performers will showcase the diversity of Canada’s world-renowned music scene.
Gordon Campbell, Canadian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, said: "With the Olympics and the Diamond Jubilee, it's a wonderful year to be a Canadian in the United Kingdom. Canada Day in Trafalgar Square will be a great addition to the celebrations. Last year thousands of people came out to enjoy our national holiday on July the 1st. I hope this year even more will join us."
The main stage will provide a platform for crowds to enjoy Canada’s artists and offers the perfect backdrop to other major attractions during Canada Day in London including a live street hockey game, a chance to sample Canadian culinary delights such as bison burgers and poutine, Canadian wine and ice-cold Molson’s beer – perfect accompaniments to a day of musical talent.
"Working closely with the Canadian Independent Music Association (CIMA), each year we try to bring Canada’s vibrant music scene to London with a diverse array of artists and performances," said Chad Molleken, Event Director, Canada Day in London. "Every year we get more creative and 2012 is shaping up to be our most exciting event yet."
Now in its 7th year, Canada Day in London is an initiative of the Canadian community in the United Kingdom. The event showcases the best of Canadian music, sport, art, culture, tourism, business, food and drink to Londoners and visitors from around the world.
